Margaret W. Carpenter Park Lives Up To The Hype
All summer I have been hearing about this new park in Thornton that was supposed to be super cool with water fountains, fantastic playscapes, a lake, a skate park and paved jogging trails. Everyone I talked to, usually parents at other parks, all suggested going and checking it out; claiming it to be the best new park in the Broomfield-Thornton area. After Googling a little bit, I finally found the Margaret W. Carpenter Park, which is a new addition to the recreation center with the same name. After planning to just do a quick visit with my son and ending up spending 3 hours there, I have to say the Margaret W. Carpenter Park in Thornton, Colorado has lived up to all the hype!
Located at 3498 East 112th Avenue, directly behind the rec-center, this park has it all: comfortable picnic spots, great scenery, a unique playground, gorgeous trails, seasonal paddle boats and a carousel! Other park amenities include a boathouse, outdoor amphitheater, lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, bocce ball courts, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard, and seasonal toilets. The park was funded by several grants and open space tax revenues, which have brought the project in at just over $2 million. Typically the seasonal features will be open Friday evenings, and on the weekends weather permitting. Besides that, the park is open daily from 6am to 11pm.
I suggest packing a lunch and bringing a change of clothes, because if you’re visit is anything like mine was, you will probably wind up spending hours exploring all there is do at the park. The large splash ground was totally the best part, and is fun for both kids and parents. After having spent a wonderful day there and talking to several other parents with children of all ages who all raved about the parks facilities, I have to say, the City of Thornton got it right and has provided top-notch city amenities to its residents.
