Beautiful Barr Lake – Brighton, Colorado
I recently read about Barr Lake in the little newspaper the City of Broomfield puts out twice a week where they named it as one of their top favorite places to enjoy a fall day, and boy were they right! I had always thought of Barr Lake primarily as a boating or fishing destination, which of course the state park is known very well for, so I was really glad I read this article because it truly did make for a fun outdoor excursion with the family on a wonderful fall day!
Barr Lake is beautiful and besides all the wonderful water activities you can do there, like boating and fishing, it is also an active persons paradise. If you are into trail running, mountain biking, power walking or horseback riding, I totally have to suggest a day trip out to Barr Lake to see if you got what it takes to conquer their 8.8 miles of wilderness trails and boardwalks. Barr Lake is also an extremely popular place for nature observers, bird watchers, and waterfowl hunters this time of year. In fact more than 350 species of birds have been seen on the park’s grounds, which includes numerous bald eagles during the winter months. Click here for their trail map.
The Barr Lake Nature Center is also a wonderful place, which many local schools view as a valuable resource because of the programs and field trips they offer for school age children. There are also several public programs provided year-round as well, like seasonal events and holiday celebrations. Furthermore, with an extending boating and fishing season, Barr Lake is also a great place for all kinds of cold weather fishing including ice fishing, as well as trolling, canoeing, and kayaking. The park also offers a free archery range with 12 lanes from 10-100 yard.
