Stapleton’s Tower Will Become an “Eatertainment” Complex

Stapleton’s iconic air traffic tower will be getting new life after plans were recently announced about its re-purposing. Last month at a press conference, Forest City and Seasoned Development announced the lower two floors of the tower complex will be the new home of the Denver area’s second Punch Bowl Social location, with the third floor serving as the company’s corporate headquarters. Punch Bowl Social is a family friendly dining and entertainment complex with locations in Denver, Austin, Detroit, and Portland. The Denver based brand features gourmet diner foods, classic cocktails and “old school” entertainment options like bowling, ping pong, darts and vintage arcade games. The first Punch Bowl Social opened just 3 years ago and has won numerous awards in their industry since. The company falls into a category being tabbed as “Eatertainment” and this location will bring new social options to the Stapleton area, reported Front Porch Stapleton.

Developers and the city have been in search of a new purpose for the historic complex since it closed in 1995. While the tower and building have held up well over the 20 years since the airport was last used, the interior has deteriorated and will be much of the focus of repurposing. When complete, the building, located at Central Park Blvd. and Martin Luther King Blvd., will have about 5,000 square feet of dining and entertainment space. While no exact timeline has been released for completion of the project, earliest estimates are for the complex to be ready in early to mid-2016.

This is exciting news, for not only Stapleton residents, but for the wider region as well. The tower has served as a landmark for the city and is an extremely visible part of Stapleton. It is in the center of the community that once served as the city’s airport. The community rose as one of the largest urban redevelopment programs in the United States. Today, Stapleton is one of the Denver area’s most desired communities to live and is home to nearly 20,000 residents. About 30% of the community’s 2,300 acres is set aside for parks. It was created to be a very walk-able community, with a terrific mixture of schools, housing, retail, dining and entertainment options.
