Local Brokers Acquire Large Oregon Firm

Denver-Based Real Estate Brokers Expand Business to Portland

Long-time Colorado real estate brokers Chuck and Chad Ochsner have purchased the largest real estate firm in Oregon. The father and son team are the owners of RE/MAX Alliance, which has over 21 offices along the Front Range.  They are now the owners of a 12 office brokerage, RE/MAX Equity Group, boasting nearly double the market share of the closest competitor in the Portland metro area.

“We have great respect for the Equity Group leadership and what they have accomplished. We plan to work with them to continue their role as the residential leaders in Portland,” said Chad Ochsner. “Because Denver and Portland are very similar real estate markets and have both been very active and competitive for buyers and sellers this last year, we believe there are a lot of synergies between the two brokerages.”

RE/MAX Alliance and RE/MAX Equity Group were ranked 27 and 57 respectively in the 2015 REAL Trends 500 survey of the largest U.S. real estate brokerages. When combined, they account for a sales force of over 1,400 agents.

Ochsner says the new ownership team will provide an entrepreneurial style that can be very nimble and respond quickly to the demands of a rapidly evolving real estate market. Alan Mehrwein, the current vice president of brokerage management will  become the new brokerage president, but no other management changes are expected.

“It’s going to be business as usual with no operational changes, however, both brokerages should benefit from economies of scale from our great vendors and the sharing of best practices,” added Ochsner.

Ochsner plans to make occasional visits to Portland, but he and his father will remain in Colorado and focused on their RE/MAX Alliance offices.  They do not anticipate this acquisition will have any impact on their local agents or their agents’ customers.

In the Denver Business Journal’s 2015 ranking of Denver-Area Residential Real Estate Brokerages, RE/MAX Alliance was ranked number one by sales volume, the same  position it held a year earlier.
