• Location: Evergreen is a town in Jefferson County that is about 15 miles west of Denver.

HISTORY

Back in 1859, a homesteader named Thomas Bergan arrived in the area and built a ranch. As the years went on, several more homesteaders entered the area and set up new places. Dwight P. Wilmont moved in and gave the town its name. To this day, his home has been preserved and continues to be a private residence. The elementary school across the street from the house is named in his honor.

By the mid 1880s, the town had grown to over 200 people. Lumber was needed in Denver, and Evergreen had plenty to provide. By the time electricity had become available in 1917, the town had become a booming tourist spot for Denver residents during the summer.

Several famous celebrities and politicians visited the town during the summer, including both President Theodore Roosevelt and President Franklin D. Roosevelt. There are a ton of resorts in the city, including Troutdale-in-the-Pines, Greystone Guest Ranch and the Brook Forest Inn
