Aurora Shines!

Did you know that “Aurora” means sunrise?  Once named Sportstown of Colorado by Sports Illustrated in 2004, originally it was known as Fletcher.  Whatever name you know it by, a visit to Aurora may be all that’s needed to convince you to call it home.

Located at the northern tip of the Black Forest the rolling hills of this town are home to over 350,000 residents.

Like most communities around our state, the folks here are determined to spend as much of their time out of doors no matter what the weather blows their way.  Each of their 6 municipal golf courses are award winning and Cherry Creek State Park is usually cram packed, especially during the summer months.

Home to military installations such as Buckley Air Force Base along with dozens of lovely residential neighborhoods, those who call Aurora home have access to quality education and convenient urban living.

In 2008, Aurora was given the distinction of being dedicated by the National Civic League as an “All-American City” and boasts South Lands, one of the largest outdoor malls in the country.  Of course no description of this city would be complete without talking about one of its greatest features and a RE/MAX fundraising favorite, the Anschutz Medical Campus of Children’s Hospital.

The third largest city in Colorado, Aurora is spread out over 3 counties (Arapahoe, Adams and Douglas).  It would be harder NOT to find things to do every day of the week in one of our states fastest growing towns.

Rivaling Denver in population, but with much more open land yet to be fully developed, while Aurora may lack specific historic value their significance may be found in the military influence seen about town.  Lowry Air Force base straddles the border between the two cities as does Buckley Air Force base and the Fitzsimmons Army Hospital is one of the oldest and larger medical facilities.

The open spaces and seemingly endless possibilities are attractive to the millennial generation and these young families will drive the continued excellence in school programs and job growth markets even further than they’ve gone so far.  In fact, the education system is extensive, with the Aurora Public School system being made up of 27 elementary schools, a gifted and talented K-8 school, 6 charter schools, a Vocational Tech college and the first Pre-k through graduate school in Colorado!

The wide range of culinary delights could easily keep you out of the kitchen for weeks!  Any one of these choices should leave you happily sated.  Then find your favorite activity to work off the caloric intake with this list of “things to do in Aurora”.  Reasons to visit Aurora are expanding even as you read this.  Coming in 2018; the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center!

Perhaps you’ll find that the unique fusion of variety of style from the old-fashioned to newest trends has resulted not in a co-existence of differences, but a warm inclusive welcome for all. Civilian and military, seniors and next gen, families and singles; they’ve discovered a way to come together in Aurora and together have become a caring community that continues to grow to this day.
