Greeley Colorado – It’s Not the “Cowtown” You Thought it was!
Greeley is a city in northern Colorado whose long and rich agricultural roots, wholesome family traditions, and affordable living have made it a popular place to buy a home and raise a family since the beginning of our State’s history. Once known for its cattle feedlots, which have long since moved out of the city limits, Greeley is now being recognized for its art, outdoor activities, seasonal events, educational opportunities, employment growth, fun downtown atmosphere, and family recreation!
The love for the arts has expanded in Greeley and can be seen though their “1 percent for Art” project that has been responsible for acquiring local public art displays in and around the downtown area. The Greeley Creative District consists of part of the Downtown Area and the University District, and is the center for most of the city’s performance, visual, and creative arts.
The charming downtown area was the main settlement of the city when it was founded in 1870. At the time, it was one of three communities in the nation to adopt strict temperance practices. Even though the city has given up its overly conservative ways, and now even has a “Go Cup” policy for some of their downtown events, the belief is still strong that Greeley is an all American City and one that is to be respected by its community members. Downtown Greeley now features more than 40 new businesses, several art galleries, Union Colony Civic Center, Lincoln Park, and a number of restaurants and bars perfect for nightlife entertainment.
Offering ample new employment opportunities, the City of Greeley was ranked 24th in the nation for job growth in 2013 and saw roughly $331 million dollars in new business investments between 2011 and 2013. It is also the headquarters for several of the nation’s largest agricultural producers like JBS USA, Rice’s Honey and Hungerberg Produce. In addition, the healthcare industry has exploded over the last few decades in Greeley and it is now one of the best places in the western states for heart health, cancer, trauma, and women’s services.
As one of its founding beliefs, education in Greeley is something that residents are proud of. The Greeley-Evans School District 6 is made up of 25 public schools and over 19,000 students, and regularly receives higher than average school rankings. Greeley is also home to Aims Community College and The University of Northern Colorado, both of which offer great learning opportunities that are drawing students from all over the state and nation!
Last be absolutely not least, Greeley offers lots of family recreational opportunities like the FunPlex, Ice Haus, Island Grove Regional Park, Community Center and Senior Center. Furthermore, the city has over 40 parks that include tons of hiking and biking trails, 4 wildlife preserves, and 2 dog parks!
