HISTORY
Parker was first established in 1862 when the Pine Grove Post Office was built. Old Indian trails such as the Smoky Hill Trail ran near the post, as well as stage coach roads named the West Cherry Creek and Denver-Santa Fe. A couple of years later, a lodge/store for travelers called the 20 Mile House (20 miles from Denver) was built on present day downtown Parker. James Parker bought the house in 1874, helped the town begin to grow and prosper. Families built farms for dairy, cattle and horses. James and his brother, George, developed the land on the east and west side of Highway 83 (Parker Road) with Douglas County’s first rail line running between Denver and New Orleans.

By 1981 the Town of Parker was officially incorporated as one square mile, including the Rowley Downs neighborhood, downtown area, Parker Square and Parker Plaza. Zoning and subdivision ordinances soon followed. Now Parker incorporates 20.8 square miles, growing from 300 residents to over 45,000!
