HISTORY
As the Colorado Central Railroad designed a route through the area in order to link Golden to Denver’s train hub, Benjamin F. Wadsworth and Louis A. Reno established Ralston Point, a townsite named after the Lewis Ralston, the first man to discover gold in Colorado. Already settled by a number of gold-diggers-turned-farmers, Ralston Point was renamed Arvada in honor of Hiram Arvada Haskin, brother-in-law of settler Mary Wadsworth (Benjamin Wadsworth’s wife). The Town of Arvada was formally incorporated into Colorado in 1904. Now a vibrant agricultural community, Arvada actually claimed the title “Celery Capital of the World.”
When Arvada became a statutory city in 1951, it rapidly transformed into a Denver metro suburb. By the year 2000, Arvada exceeded 100,000 residents! The community continues to flourish as people enjoy downtown Olde Arvada, excellent parks and recreations, fun town events, notable restaurants and more!
