Denver Firefighters Museum – Family Friendly Place to Explore Local History

This week I had a hankering to do something different with my extremely active 3 year old son and decided to check out the Denver Firefighters Museum for a few hours after school. The experience was one that I am sure he will never forget and one that brought back memories of my dad’s time spent as a volunteer firefighter. I was pleasantly surprised by how many hands-on activities they have for the kids and by how many things I found intriguing. The one thing I enjoyed the most though, was watching my son actually learn and practice fire safety.  If you have never been to the Denver Firefighters Museum or it’s been a while, I highly suggest visiting this fall!  It is the perfect cold weather activity.  No matter what age you are, there’s going to be something there that you will find interesting, I guarantee it.

Here’s what you need to know before you go:

  • Tours are self-guided and cost $6 for adults, $5 seniors and students, and $4 for kids ages 2 to 12.
  • Hours: Mon. – Sat 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • The Denver Firefighters Museum is a 501 c3 not for profit organization and accepts donations.
  • Food and drink are not allowed with the exception of baby bottles.
  • Visitors are encouraged not to bring in their bags.
  • Backpacks, carriers, and purses worn on the back of any size are prohibited.
  • Photography and videotaping are welcomed.
  • Second floor of galleries are not handicap accessible.
  • Several seasonal volunteer opportunities are available.
  • Plan for about an hour.
