Five Perfect Parks in Denver
Have you been coming up short on things to do with all this gorgeous weather we have here in Denver? Well I have taken care of your troubles and put together five fun days at Denver’s best parks. A day at a park can be more than a picnic and a ride down the slide, let me show you what makes these top picks stand out from the crowd.

Click on the picture!Let’s start with a day at City Park at 2001 Steele St. Adults and kids alike can have a little fun on the all wood playground, maybe a quick game of groundies is in order. Next stop will be the boat house; the only choice you have to make here is if you want a kayak or a paddleboat to enjoy the lake. Now, once you are floating away, look up. Above your head are hundreds of bird’s nests, this is really quite a sight, also my personal favorite of this local treasure. Might as well end the day with a game of tennis and a stroll through Denver’s largest city park (but watch where you step, geese love this park too!).

Washington Park at 691 Humboldt St. offers up a great 2.75 mile loop for your running pleasure, but if you are ready for something new, look no further than the lawn bowling area. Don’t be fooled, this is harder than it looks. It may look simple to roll the ball close to the target, but I’ll let you in on the secret… The ball you will throw is actually slightly flattened on one side, so don’t be surprised when it goes astray. Afterwards, be sure to dig out those roller blades; (I know you have some!) this park offers up several courts for your skating pleasure. This is also the best park for you if you love dogs! All the cuties seem to gather here.
Need a little more excitement? No problem. Let’s head to Confluence Park at 2200 15th Street. Make sure to slip your sandals on for this pick, sit on the banks of the South Platte River you’ll be tempted to get your feet wet. I say grab some burgers from Brother’s Bar down the street and enjoy them as you watch the fearless kayakers battle the rapids. Once summer comes back around, this will be the place to be every Thursday night. The free concert series offered here draws quite the crowd.
Want to learn more? Click on the picture!Want to walk on some haunted history? Head over to Cheesman Park at 1599 E. 8th Ave. This park once went by a very different name. In 1858, this same land was Mt. Prospect Cemetery–over 620 people were once buried here, mostly the poor, the diseased, and criminals. In 1893, the removal of the bodies began the transformation from a cemetery to a city park. Many locals have claimed haunted happenings in these beautiful gardens. The gorgeous pavilion seems like a great place to relax and wait for your own ghostly encounter.
Is the sun shining but the ground still covered in snow? Perfect. Grab your sleds and head to Stapleton Central Park at 8601 E. Martin Luther King Blvd. S. This park has a hill that was built solely for your sledding pleasure. Over 25 feet down a perfect slope made for a perfect snow day. Even if it is snowy you have to venture over to this modern playground to check out the latest and greatest in playground equipment (they’ve come a long way from the merry-go-round). Locals say this is also one of the best maintained parks in Denver, so pack a snack and stay through the afternoon.
Take advantage of these awesome parks and find a new reason to love the Mile High City!
