SOUTH COLORADO
Brother Luck’s Street Eats, Colorado Springs: His name actually is really Brother Luck, and boy can he cook!
Ivywild School, Colorado Springs: An abandoned-elementary-school-turned-brewery-tasting-room is a taster’s heaven.
The Pantry, Green Mountain Falls: Homemade pork green chili breakfast with beautiful lakeside views…what more can you ask for?
Milagros Coffee House, Alamosa: Wonderful coffee, from-scratch pastries and a great community vibe, Milagros also supports a charity for poor families and migrant workers in the San Luis Valley.
Steamworks Brewing Company, Durango: A huge, old Ford dealership which now serves up delicious Colorado Kölsch, Third Eye P.A. and gastropub fare.
The Last Dollar Saloon, Telluride: This century-old dive bar is nicknamed by locals as “The Buck.” It’s definitely the most affordable place to drink in town.
Sweeties Sandwich Shop, Salida: A fresh menu of high-quality meats, cheese and veggies layered between slices of just-baked bread.
DENVER
Snarf’s, Multiple Denver/Boulder locations (but the DU location has a full bar!): If you love homemade pastrami, this is your sandwich shop! Made with daily-baked bread that’s jammed full of fresh veggies and pickled hot peppers.
New Saigon Bakery, Denver: Tasty Vietnamese coffee and banh mi sandwiches mostly made with pork, cilantro, jalapeño and pickled veggies stuffed in crispy-chewy baguettes.
Fruition, Denver: This maybe the best fish you’ve ever eaten, even if it is in landlocked Colorado!
The Source, Denver: This abandoned brick foundry is now an artisanal foodie wonderland! There’s a butcher, flourist, cheese shop, cocktail bar, brewery, coffee roaster and liquor store.
WESTERN SLOPE
The George, Vail: This basement near the covered bridge offers relaxed seating with affordable pub food.
Secret Stash, Crested Butte: You can sit at the bar and watch a pizza maestro with bulging Popeye forearms sling a pie into a blazing oven.
Beau Jo’s Pizza, Idaho Springs: The original Beau Jo’s is the best! A true “mountain pie” that’s ordered by the pound has a braided crust that’s paired with Colorado honey.
Izzy’s, Crested Butte: Enjoy a breakfast with potato latkes, homemade bagels and huge buttermilk pancakes!
K’s Dairy Delite, Buena Vista: After a good climb, K’s turkey tetrazzini, bacon cheeseburger, fries or a peanut butter shake will hit the spot!
The Gunnysack, Gunnison: Gunnysack is a self-described “Cowboy Bistro” that does classic, homemade comfort food.
Montanya Distillers, Crested Butte: Who knew this internationally-renown rum comes out of a small Colorado town. Beware! It’s only 60 percent water!
Dorothy’s Tamales, Fairplay: Yep, Dorothy’s is at a bowling alley! This roadside stop is a tamale utopia! Order the pork and bison tamale, slathered in their delicious green chili.
